What Changed in the 2025-26 Tax Slabs

The Finance Act 2025 cut salary tax rates across the board. The exempt threshold stayed at Rs 600,000, but the entry rate fell from 5% to 1%, the second band from 15% to 11%, and the third from 25% to 23%. The top rate of 35% above Rs 4,100,000 is unchanged. The surcharge on taxable income over Rs 10 million was reduced from 10% to 9% for salaried persons.

In practice, at Rs 100,000 per month your annual tax drops from Rs 30,000 to Rs 6,000. At Rs 200,000 per month it drops from Rs 230,000 to Rs 162,000.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The same tax slabs generally apply to both government and private sector salaried employees in Pakistan. However, certain allowances (medical, house rent) have different exemption limits for government employees. Our calculator accounts for these differences.

Your employer deducts withholding tax (WHT) based on their estimate of your annual salary. If your employer has underestimated or you have other income sources, you may owe additional tax when you file. Our calculator helps you identify any potential shortfall before filing season.

Filing a tax return makes you an Active Tax Filer, entitling you to lower withholding tax rates on bank transactions (halved from 0.6% to 0.3%), property purchases, and vehicle registration. The savings can far exceed the cost of filing.

On a salary of Rs 100,000 per month (Rs 1,200,000 per year) in tax year 2025-26, the income tax is Rs 6,000 for the full year, which is Rs 500 deducted per month. That is an effective tax rate of 0.50%. Only the amount above Rs 600,000 is taxed, and it is taxed at 1%.

Annual salary income up to Rs 600,000 is completely exempt from income tax in Pakistan for tax year 2025-26. That works out to Rs 50,000 per month. If you earn Rs 50,000 a month or less, your income tax is zero — though you should still file a return to become an Active Tax Filer.

Yes. The Finance Act 2025 reduced salary tax rates. The lowest slab rate fell from 5% to 1%, the second slab from 15% to 11%, and the third from 25% to 23%. The exempt threshold stayed at Rs 600,000 and the top rate of 35% is unchanged. The surcharge on taxable income above Rs 10 million was reduced from 10% to 9%.

No. Pakistan uses progressive slab taxation, so only the portion of your income that falls inside a higher slab is taxed at that higher rate. If you earn Rs 1,300,000 a year, the first Rs 600,000 is tax-free, the next Rs 600,000 is taxed at 1%, and only the last Rs 100,000 is taxed at 11%. A raise can never reduce your take-home pay.

Yes. If your taxable income exceeds Rs 10,000,000 in a tax year, a surcharge of 9% applies for tax year 2025-26, reduced from 10% previously. Importantly, the surcharge is 9% of the tax payable, not 9% of your income.

Your employer calculates your estimated annual salary, applies the FBR slab rates for the tax year, and deducts one-twelfth of the resulting tax from each monthly payslip under Section 149 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001. Tax is applied progressively: each slab rate applies only to the income falling within that slab.

The most common reasons are that your employer has included bonuses, allowances or a mid-year increment in their annual estimate, or is recovering tax under-deducted in earlier months. Employers project your full-year salary in advance, so a raise in month seven causes a catch-up deduction spread over the remaining months.

No. There is no separate tax rate for bonuses on salary income — a bonus is added to your annual salary and taxed under the same slabs. The deduction in your bonus month often looks larger because the bonus pushes part of your annual income into a higher slab, and employers usually recover that extra tax immediately.

The deadline for salaried individuals to file their income tax return for tax year 2025-26 is 30 September 2026. Filing on time keeps you on the Active Taxpayers List, which halves withholding tax on bank transactions and reduces rates on property and vehicle transactions.

Yes. The tax year dropdown covers 2019-20 through 2025-26, each with the slab rates that applied in that year. This is useful for checking a past return, calculating arrears, or comparing how your tax burden has changed over time.

The calculator applies the official FBR slab rates precisely to the salary figure you enter, so the slab maths is exact. It does not model employer-specific allowances, provident fund treatment, tax credits for donations or pension contributions, or income from other sources. Treat it as an accurate baseline rather than a substitute for a filed return.

No. This is a free FBR tax calculator built by PakFiler using the slab rates published in the Finance Act. It is not operated by the Federal Board of Revenue and PakFiler is not affiliated with FBR. The rates it applies are the same rates FBR publishes for each tax year, so the result matches an official calculation on gross salary.

Tax on salary in Pakistan is charged on annual salary income above Rs 600,000 using progressive slabs. For tax year 2025-26 the rates run 1%, 11%, 23%, 30% and 35%. A salary of Rs 100,000 a month pays Rs 6,000 a year, Rs 200,000 a month pays Rs 162,000 a year, and anything at or below Rs 50,000 a month pays nothing.

For tax year 2026-27 the exempt threshold stays at Rs 600,000. The rates are 1% above Rs 600,000, 11% above Rs 1,200,000, 20% above Rs 2,200,000, 25% above Rs 3,200,000, 29% above Rs 4,100,000, 32% above Rs 5,600,000 and 35% above Rs 7,000,000. Select 2026-2027 in the tax year dropdown to calculate on these rates.
